Introduction Pi Kappa Phi was founded at the College of Charleston (SC) on December 10, 1904. Originally, Pi Kappa Phi was seeking something different- a fraternity made up of leaders.
The LSU Chapter (Gamma Iota) was founded in 1968 then later rechartered in 1993. Since 1993, Pi Kapp has consistently been one of the five biggest fraternities on campus (out of 20).
The chapter is committed to leading within the Greek community, as well as outside of it. Pi Kappa Phi has strong roots in student government while also exhibiting leadership within the Interfraternity Council (IFC).
Who are we?
The Gamma Iota Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi boasts a membership of around 100 brothers year-to-year. These young men can come from places all over the United States, currently consisting of eight different states. Consider the following statistics from the 2009-2010 year.
▪ Pi Kappa Phi’s grades (3.01 gpa) ranked 2nd out of the 20 fraternities.
▪ Members competed in all major intramural sports.
▪ Raised almost $10,000 for the national Philanthropy, The Ability Experience.
How's The Social Aspect? A portion of dues goes strictly to the social budget. This money goes to pay a multitude of things. An exchange is an event in which a fraternity and sorority pair up, rent out a venue and dress to a theme. Pi Kappa Phi has exchanges with all sororities. In addition to exchanges in the fall, the fraternity has house parties after football games, a bus trip to go tubing, semi-formal and tailgates for every home game. In the spring, there are still more exchanges and house parties. The chapter also hits the road for a date party bus trip down to the New Orleans racetracks for the "Day at the Races" event. To bring the school year to an end, Pi Kapps have the traditional Rose Ball formal in Panama City, FL. Incorporating a tuxedo formal with a couple days at the beach, the men also take a chance to honor the leaders of the fraternity and the special ladies of the chapter, deemed the "Rose Court", consisting of women who have dated brothers for over a year.
How's Pledgeship? Pi Kappa Phi is a non-hazing Fraternity. The members will never ask an associate member to do something he does not want to do. A Pi Kapp pledgeship strives to have every associate member learn 3 things: Learn your pledge Class, Learn the chapter, and Learn the National Chapter. Pi Kappa Phi strives to create a close knit pledge class. The end result creates an unmatched brotherhood. Scholarship is taken seriously, with study hours twice a week during pledge, yet rewarded with scholarships offered during the first semester. Active members are always willing to help with any trouble a pledge might be having in his first semester at college.
